ALPHA SIGMA BOULE

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

In 1904, the oldest Greek letter organization was formed in Philadelphia. Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (The Boulé) was formed by African American men of accomplishment. Their purpose was to "bind men of like qualities, tastes and attainments" who could improve the social condition of folks of African descent in American society.

The men of Alpha Sigma Boulé continue in the tradition of the founders. The Alpha Sigma Boulé Foundation is a 501(c)(3) entity. Part of its charge has been the successful development of an educational scholarship for youth named for two of our members, Dr. Vernal Cave and Herbert Whiteman, Jr. These men have demonstrated a desire to foster scholarship and uplift our youth.

The Alpha Sigma Boulé Foundation's Cave-Whiteman scholarship is given to underserved youth exiting eighth grade and continuing through higher education. Depending on the needs of the person, a recipient may be provided with financial support which includes school supplies, a computer, and clothing. In addition, recipients receive academic support which encompasses mentoring, tutoring, and counseling.
